The Super Eagles will begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign against Madagascar in Uyo on September 25 before travelling to Bissau to face Guinea-Bissau four days later. The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed the fixtures, with the opening match set for the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
Nigeria will then face Guinea-Bissau away from home, giving the team two matches in four days. According to CAF’s schedule, the Bissau fixture will kick off at 4pm GMT.
Tanzania’s status as an AFCON 2027 co-host means Nigeria, Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau will compete for the group’s remaining qualification place. CAF’s format sends the highest-ranked team among the three to the tournament.
Nigeria can therefore take an early lead in the race by beating Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau. Six points from the opening two games would give the Super Eagles a strong start before their November meetings with Tanzania.
Former Nigeria international Garba Lawal has urged Nigerians to support the team while the Nigeria Football Federation continues its leadership and reform process. As reported by Sports247 Nigeria, Lawal said, “Forget the football crisis, win the qualifiers.”
Lawal also called for maximum points from the September fixtures. The former midfielder said the Super Eagles should secure “six points” against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau rather than allow the administrative dispute to distract them.
Nigeria will meet Tanzania twice in November before completing the group campaign against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau in March 2027. The September results will give the Super Eagles their first points in the Group L qualification race.
