Stanley Nwabali has said returning to the Super Eagles is not his immediate concern after rejoining Chippa United for the 2026/27 season.
The Nigeria goalkeeper returned to the South African club after several months without regular competitive football. He has since started matches for Chippa United in the Betway Premiership.
Nwabali said he wants to help Chippa United collect points instead of focusing on Nigeria’s goalkeeping competition.
“I feel positive coming back to the club, not just for me but also for the team.”
He also spoke about his relationship with the club after returning.
“Coming back to this club feels like I’m coming back to my family and my home.”
Nwabali added that he feels happy to be playing again.
“I’m really happy to be back on the pitch, doing what I love.”
Meanwhile, Nigeria have several goalkeeping options after Maduka Okoye and Arthur Okonkwo received opportunities while Nwabali was away from competitive football.
However, Nwabali said he is not focusing on reclaiming the Super Eagles’ No. 1 position.
“I’m not really worried about that one, I’m only focused on helping my club pick up as many points as possible.”
He added: “So for now I’m not too worried about the national team.”
Nwabali began his return to Chippa United with a clean sheet against Golden Arrows. He made six saves and received the Man of the Match award.
His return also comes before Nigeria’s next 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures. The Super Eagles are scheduled to face Madagascar in September.
