Taiwo Awoniyi will stay in England despite uncertainty over his Nottingham Forest future.
Former Super Eagles midfielder Seyi Olofinjana revealed that the striker wants to remain in England until he obtains a second passport.
Olofinjana, who developed Awoniyi at Imperial Football Academy, said the forward does not plan to leave England soon.
“Taiwo Awoniyi is a product of Imperial Football Academy, and he isn’t moving anywhere – he’s going to stay in England until he obtains his second passport,” Olofinjana said on a podcast monitored by Super Eagles NG.
The update comes as clubs continue to monitor Awoniyi’s situation at Nottingham Forest.
Taiwo Awoniyi Future At Nottingham Forest
Awoniyi joined Nottingham Forest from Union Berlin in 2022 after scoring 20 goals in his final season with the German club.
The Nigerian striker became Forest’s first signing after the club returned to the Premier League.
He helped Forest secure Premier League survival in the 2022/23 season after scoring important goals.
However, injuries have limited his appearances, leading to questions about his role at the City Ground.
Despite transfer reports, Awoniyi has not confirmed plans to leave Nottingham Forest.
Why Taiwo Awoniyi Wants To Stay In England
Awoniyi wants to complete his second passport process before making decisions about his future.
The passport could give him more options during future transfer talks because clubs consider registration rules when signing overseas players.
For now, the striker will continue his career in England while waiting for the document.
Awoniyi scored during Nottingham Forest’s pre-season friendly against Blackburn Rovers.
The goal gave the forward another chance to build fitness before the new Premier League season.
Forest continue preparing for the campaign with Awoniyi competing for a place in the attacking lineup.
