The head coach of the Gabon national football team, Thierry Mouyouma, has praised FC Lorient ex-winger and one of the nominees for CAF Africa’s Best Player, Denis Bouanga, for his exceptional performance at the club level, representing Los Angeles FC, as well as internationally, representing Gabon.
Currently, Bouanga has netted 16 goals for Gabon and has been a key player in their World Cup qualification, emerging as the third-highest scorer with eight goals.
He has been just as important a part of Los Angeles FC as he has pace, creativity, and finishing that have led to vital goals. His display, including his arms open wide as he celebrated a goal in the MLS play-offs against Austin FC, shows how important he is to the team.
Mouyouma said: “Denis Bouanga is having a top-level season with Los Angeles FC, scoring a lot of goals, and with Gabon, he finished as the third-highest scorer in the World Cup qualifiers. He’s lifting the team.”
He added that the competition remains tough, with stars like Mohamed Salah, Victor Osimhen, and Achraf Hakimi in the running.
Though an underdog, Bouanga’s performance at the club and national levels makes him a serious contender. If he performs well and propels Gabon to a successful World Cup play-off against the Super Eagles of Nigeria, his chances will surely increase to claim Africa’s best individual award.
