Nwabali Close to Saudi Move After Super Eagles Snub

Stanley Nwabali is close to a move to the Saudi Pro League after four months without competitive football, SuperEaglesNG.com reports.

Talks have reached an advanced stage, according to Soccer Laduma, with both sides expecting a decision soon.

The goalkeeper became a free agent after leaving Chippa United in February. Since then, he has not featured in any competitive match, a spell that has weakened his standing with the Nigeria national team.

A switch to Saudi Arabia would mark his first move outside Africa. It would also end a long period without club football and restore regular playing time.

Nwabali built his reputation with the Super Eagles through strong performances at the Africa Cup of Nations. He helped Nigeria reach the 2023 final and finish third in 2025.

His absence from club action forced changes in the goalkeeping hierarchy. Coach Eric Chelle now prioritises active players in competitive leagues.

Francis Uzoho currently leads the pecking order, while Maduka Okoye and Arthur Okonkwo remain in contention.

Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong noted that Nwabali’s early departure from Chippa United contributed to his extended spell without football.

A move to Saudi Arabia would restore regular match action and improve his chances of a Super Eagles recall ahead of Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. His selection will depend on consistent performances and match fitness.
