Super Eagles Coach Eric Chelle Gets New Deal and U-23 Duties

Nigeria’s National Sports Commission has renewed Eric Chelle’s contract as Super Eagles head coach and expanded his role to include the U-23 team, SuperEaglesNG.com reports.

According to Daily Post Nigeria, Chelle’s original contract was due to end in 2026. In recent months, both sides held talks to agree on new terms, mainly focused on salary and staff support.

During negotiations, Chelle asked for a higher pay package that also covers his assistants. The authorities reviewed the request and continued discussions in Abuja with the Nigeria Football Federation.

On Tuesday, officials confirmed that both parties reached an agreement. Chelle will continue as Super Eagles coach under improved pay terms, and his assistants will also be properly funded.

He will now also coach the Nigeria U-23 team, known as the Olympic Eagles. The aim is to connect the U-23 squad with the senior team so young players can move up more easily.

The decision comes after Nigeria’s poor results in recent years, including failure to qualify for the last two World Cups and the last two Olympic football tournaments.

Chelle now leads both teams and carries responsibility for improving results and building a stronger long-term system for Nigerian football.
