Nigerian Players Abroad: Tolu Arokodare Leaves Wolves for Ajax

by Nicole Selu

Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has joined Ajax on a season-long loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, adding another move to the list of Nigerian players abroad ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Ajax completed the deal for the 25-year-old forward, with the Dutch club holding an option to sign him permanently after the loan spell ends.

Arokodare moves to Amsterdam after one season with Wolves following his transfer from Belgian club Racing Genk. The Nigerian forward scored six goals across all competitions during his first campaign in England.

Wolves struggled throughout the season and suffered relegation from the Premier League, while Arokodare found it difficult to secure a regular place in the starting lineup.

The striker previously impressed at Racing Genk, where his goals helped him attract interest before earning a move to the Premier League. He also spent time in Latvia, Germany and France during the early stages of his European career.

Ajax signed Arokodare as they prepare for another campaign involving domestic competitions and European fixtures. The Nigerian striker will compete for a place in the team’s attacking lineup.

The move could also improve Arokodare’s chances of returning to the Super Eagles squad. Regular appearances at Ajax will give him an opportunity to maintain his form while competing at a high level in the Netherlands.

Arokodare becomes the latest Nigerian footballer to secure a European transfer as clubs across the continent continue to recruit players from Nigeria. His season at Ajax will determine whether the Dutch club activates the option to make the deal permanent.
