Super Lig Golden Boot Race: Osimhen and Onuachu Face New Threats

by Nicole Selu

The Super Lig Golden Boot race will feature Victor Osimhen and Paul Onuachu alongside new attacking threats when the 2026/27 season begins.

Osimhen won the 2024/25 scoring award after netting 26 league goals for Galatasaray. Onuachu then claimed the 2025/26 prize after scoring 22 goals for Trabzonspor. He shared the award with Eldor Shomurodov.

However, the Nigerian forwards now face a stronger field after Mohamed Salah joined Trabzonspor and Romelu Lukaku moved to Fenerbahçe.

Salah left Liverpool after nine years and joined Trabzonspor on a two-year contract. The Egyptian scored 257 goals in 442 appearances for Liverpool before moving to Turkey.

At Trabzonspor, Salah will play alongside Onuachu, who scored 22 league goals last season.

Former Trabzonspor forward Emre Güral believes the Egyptian’s arrival could help Onuachu score even more goals.

“Onuachu will create more space because the opposing team’s players will focus on Mohamed Salah.”

Meanwhile, Lukaku has joined Fenerbahçe after his spell with Napoli, adding another experienced goalscorer to the Golden Boot contest.

Consequently, Osimhen must compete with Salah, Lukaku, Onuachu and Shomurodov for the 2026/27 scoring prize.

The Nigerian striker will seek another Golden Boot at Galatasaray, while Onuachu begins his campaign at Trabzonspor with Salah providing another major attacking option.
