Former Nigerian international Greg Etafia has joined Tanzanian champions Young Africans as goalkeeper coach before the start of the 2026/27 season.
Super Eagles NG understands that the former Super Eagles goalkeeper has accepted his first coaching job outside South Africa after more than a decade on the sidelines. According to reports, Etafia has joined the technical team led by new head coach Manqoba Mngqithi.
Etafia Earns First Coaching Role Outside South Africa
Etafia retired from professional football in 2015 before beginning his coaching career at Moroka Swallows, where he later served as interim manager.
He moved to Cape Town All Stars as goalkeeper coach and again took charge of the first team on an interim basis. During that spell, he guided the club from the foot of the table to safety with a 14th-place finish and reached the Round of 32 of the Nedbank Cup.
He later worked with Baroka FC and TS Galaxy before accepting the offer from Young Africans.
His duties will include training the club’s goalkeepers, reviewing performances and preparing them for domestic league and continental matches.
From NPFL Goalkeeper To East African Football
Etafia began his senior career with Lobi Stars before playing for Plateau United.
He moved to South Africa in 2003 and spent 12 years with Moroka Swallows before ending his playing career at Highlands Park.
He also represented Nigeria’s Under-23 team at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
