Super Eagles striker Akor Adams scored his first Serie A goal for Venezia on Friday as Fiorentina won 4-2 at the Pier Luigi Penzo. Adams opened the scoring in the 22nd minute after Gianluca Busio found him on the right, with La Repubblica reporting that he cut inside before beating David de Gea.
The goal came after Adams went without a league strike in matches against Lecce, AC Milan and Frosinone. According to Opta Analyst, he started each of Venezia’s first four Serie A fixtures and played 340 minutes before facing Fiorentina.
Adams had already made an impact in the Coppa Italia, scoring twice and providing an assist in Venezia’s 3-2 victory over Modena on 15 August. The performance came during his first competitive appearance for the club.
Venezia signed Adams after his spell at Sevilla, where he scored 10 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions. The club handed him a contract until June 2030 after his previous stint at Montpellier produced 13 goals in 49 appearances.
Fiorentina responded to Adams’ opener with two goals from Franco Mastantuono before half-time. Mateo Pellegrino then extended the visitors’ advantage in the 66th minute.
Mastantuono completed his hat-trick in the 84th minute, while Antoine Hainaut scored Venezia’s second goal late in the match. Fiorentina secured the 4-2 win despite conceding first.
Before his move, Adams told Venezia’s official website: “I chose to come here because I can see the incredible project Venezia is building, and I want to play my part in writing the next chapter of the club’s history.” According to the club, the Nigerian joined with a contract running until June 2030.
