Fulham are working on a new long-term contract for Calvin Bassey, with the club seeking to secure the Nigeria international’s future at Craven Cottage. The centre-back has one year remaining on his current deal, while the Cottagers also hold an option to extend it by another season, potentially keeping him at the club until the summer of 2028.
The contract talks come as Inter Milan continue to monitor the 26-year-old’s situation. TEAMtalk reports that Fulham remain relaxed because of the existing extension clause but still want to reach an agreement that would keep the defender in West London beyond his current terms.
Bassey has made 105 appearances for the club since joining from Ajax in July 2023, while his 2024/25 campaign ended with the Fulham Player of the Season award. He featured in 35 Premier League matches during that season and established himself as a regular option in the back line.
After receiving the award, the former Ajax player thanked those who voted for him. “Thank you guys for voting me Player of the Season,” Bassey said, before also acknowledging his team-mates, coaching staff and manager for their support throughout the campaign.
His role has continued under new manager Álvaro Arbeloa, with the centre-back starting Fulham’s first three Premier League matches of the 2026/27 season against Chelsea, Sunderland and Crystal Palace. Arbeloa has also praised his qualities, saying: “Calvin is a proper and top player for my style of game,” while adding that he “has everything” needed for the system.
The manager’s comments reflect the defensive qualities Bassey has brought to the side since his arrival from Ajax. His ability to operate at centre-back or left-back gives Arbeloa another option when setting up the defence, while his pace, strength and ability to carry the ball from the back have featured in his Premier League performances.
With 105 Fulham appearances already on his record and another season available through the existing club option, the next stage of Bassey’s future will depend on the outcome of the long-term contract discussions. The talks also come with Inter Milan keeping track of a player who remains a regular starter for the London club.
