Charlton Athletic and Bolton Wanderers are tracking Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo ahead of the final weeks of the summer transfer window.
According to Sports Illustrated, Okonkwo could leave Wrexham permanently before the window closes. The 24-year-old has entered the final year of his contract.
Meanwhile, Wrexham signed Anthony Patterson from Sunderland for an initial £8 million. Patterson now competes with Danny Ward for the goalkeeper position, while Okonkwo has fallen behind both players.
Super Eagles Nigeria reports that Wrexham expect Okonkwo to leave during the final two weeks of the transfer window.
“Arthur Okonkwo is expected to leave Wrexham permanently during the final two weeks of the summer transfer window.”
Okonkwo initially joined Wrexham on loan from Arsenal in 2023. He then signed permanently for the Welsh club in 2024 after leaving Arsenal.
During his first season, Okonkwo helped Wrexham win promotion from League Two. He then played as the club secured another promotion from League One to the Championship.
The goalkeeper also earned a place in the League Two Team of the Season for the 2023–24 campaign.
After switching his international allegiance from England, FIFA approved Okonkwo’s eligibility to represent Nigeria in 2026. He subsequently joined the Super Eagles setup.
Okonkwo has made 121 appearances for Wrexham and kept 47 clean sheets.
The goalkeeper’s current contract gives Wrexham a decision to make before next summer. A permanent transfer this month would allow the club to receive a fee rather than lose the goalkeeper when his contract expires.
Charlton and Bolton will continue to assess the situation as the transfer window moves towards its closing date.
