Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen will keep wearing the No. 45 jersey at Galatasaray during the 2026/27 season after deciding against taking the club’s No. 9 shirt.
The Nigeria international explained that No. 45 has brought him good memories since joining the Turkish champions and wants to continue with the same number.
“I believe that you will sell more shirts, but I believe you will understand my perspective. The number 45 has been lucky for me at Galatasaray,” Osimhen told Sabah.
“I wish to continue with the same number,” he added.
Osimhen wore No. 45 when he joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli before completing a permanent move to the Istanbul club. The shirt became familiar to supporters during his first spell, when his goals helped the team win domestic trophies.
The striker’s decision came after discussions over whether he would take the No. 9 shirt, which previously belonged to Mauro Icardi. However, Osimhen decided to remain with the number he has worn since arriving in Turkey.
Galatasaray will now enter the new season with Osimhen leading the attack in his No. 45 jersey. The forward has already started preparations for the campaign after scoring in the club’s 3-3 pre-season draw against Rennes.
The 27-year-old joined Galatasaray permanently from Napoli after his successful loan spell and remains one of the club’s main attacking options ahead of the new season.
