Paul Onuachu has confirmed that he rejected lucrative offers from other clubs because he wanted to remain at Trabzonspor. The Super Eagles striker said happiness, family life and stability mattered more than a bigger salary after completing his permanent move from Southampton during the 2026 summer transfer window.
Why Paul Onuachu Rejected Transfer Offers
Onuachu said leaving Trabzonspor never felt like the right decision despite interest from several clubs. He explained that he enjoys playing for the Turkish side, feels appreciated by the supporters and has settled comfortably with his family.
The Nigerian international added that money was never the deciding factor. Instead, he chose to continue with a club where he feels at home and believes he can perform at his best. By committing his future to Trabzonspor, he brought an end to weeks of transfer speculation.
Transfer Interest Failed To Change Onuachu’s Mind
Onuachu attracted interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League and Germany after another impressive season in Turkey. Reports suggested some of those clubs were willing to offer significantly higher wages, but the striker had already decided against leaving.
Trabzonspor also rejected a bid reported to be worth almost €20 million. Club president Ertuğrul Doğan confirmed that the offer arrived but said the club had no intention of selling one of its most important players. He added that Onuachu also wanted to remain in Turkey, making the decision straightforward for both the player and the club.
Why Onuachu Is Indispensable To Trabzonspor
Onuachu has become the focal point of Trabzonspor’s attack since arriving from Southampton. His ability to score consistently, hold up possession and dominate in the air gives the team an attacking dimension few strikers can provide.
Standing at 2.01 metres (6 ft 7 in), he creates opportunities for teammates, converts crosses and set pieces into goals and offers valuable experience inside the dressing room. His performances during the 2025–26 season reinforced his importance to the squad and made replacing him a difficult task.
What Next For Onuachu?
Onuachu is expected to lead Trabzonspor’s attack again during the 2026–27 season as the club targets European qualification and domestic success. Remaining in Turkey also strengthens his prospects of retaining his place in Nigeria’s Super Eagles squad for upcoming international fixtures.
