Eric Chelle’s Super Eagles future has become a major talking point after reports linked the Nigeria coach with an Algeria job and other North African opportunities. However, Nigeria officials have dismissed the exit rumours and confirmed that Chelle remains committed to the national team — SuperEaglesNG.com reports.
National Sports Commission (NSC) Director-General Bukola Olopade said the delay in completing Chelle’s new contract does not mean the coach plans to leave Nigeria.
Olopade explained that both sides have agreed on the terms of the renewed deal, with only the final paperwork left to complete.
“Before contracts are signed on paper, you must have done a great deal of work to solidify all ends,” Olopade said.
“It’s a renewed contract, which means it’s an existing one. We have agreed, so I am sure that the Nigeria Football Federation will conclude the documentation as soon as possible.”
Eric Chelle Algeria Job Rumours Addressed By NSC
Reports recently linked Eric Chelle with interest from Algeria and some North African clubs after his performances with the Super Eagles.
However, Olopade dismissed the reports and insisted that Chelle has no plans to leave Nigeria.
“Eric is a gentleman, so all the stories about other countries looking for him do not hold water. I’ve sat with him and I know he is not bothered by all those rumours,” Olopade said.
Meanwhile, Chelle has also spoken about his commitment to Nigeria’s national team.
The Super Eagles coach thanked supporters during Nigeria’s international friendlies in June and said he wants to continue improving the team.
“I try to do my job and I want to say thank you for all the support. If I have some time, I will give everything for this national team. Every day I try to improve as a man and as a coach too,” Chelle said.
Eric Chelle Contract Renewal And Super Eagles Plans
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the NSC and Chelle have reached an agreement over a new contract, according to reports.
The final signing of the deal remains the next step, while Chelle’s current contract will expire later this year.
The proposed agreement includes better financial terms, more technical support and an expanded role in Nigerian football.
Reports also claim Chelle asked for a monthly salary of $130,000, while the NSC plans to offer $100,000 per month. His coaching assistants’ salaries would come separately.
In addition, Chelle could take charge of Nigeria’s U-23 men’s national team as the country prepares for the 2028 Olympic football qualifiers.
Since he became Super Eagles coach, Chelle has managed 25 matches, including 15 competitive games. Nigeria recorded 10 wins in regulation time during that period, alongside one penalty shootout victory over Egypt in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations third-place match, two penalty shootout defeats and two draws in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
As discussions continue over his contract, Nigeria officials maintain that Eric Chelle remains focused on his role as Super Eagles coach.
